Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out the effectiveness between Scramble Method and Word Mapping and also the significant differences between the Scramble Method and Word Mapping in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Darul Hikmah Menganti in the academic year 2019/2020. This research was true experiment research with used post test only control group design that involving two groups of classes. One group treated as the experimental class and other group as the control class. In experimental class the researcher applied Scramble Method and also Word Mapping, while in control class the researcher use convensional method in teaching vocabulary. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of MA Darul Hikmah Menganti Kedung Jepara which consisted 149 students. The sample of this research consisted of 110 students which were taken by using simple random sampling came from X IPS 2 consisted 35 students, X IPA 2 consisted 35 students as the experimental class, and X IPA 1 consisted 40 students as the control class. The instrument of this research was multiple choice test. Based on the result of the test, the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ post test in both experimental (scrambe class and word mapping clas) and control class. In scramble class the total mean score was 80,23, in word mapping class was 72,69. While in control class the total mean score was 61,10. From the calculation by using one way ANOVA test the result showed that 0,000 < 0,05, it can be concluded that there was significant difference between the scramble method and word mapping in improving students’ vocabulary mastery.
