Abstract
This thesis is entitled Transitivity Analysis of Recount Text at eight grade students of MTs. Mathalibul Huda Mlonggo in Academic Year 2019/2020. This study is to describe and investigate the transitivity realized in the students recount text of MTs Mathalibul Huda Mlonggo. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected from students’ recount texts in class 8G of MTs Mathalibul Huda Mlonggo. The method of the study is discourse analysis which analyzed transitivity analysis. This study was conducted to describe Process Types, Participant Functions, and Circumstantial Elements of Transitivity Analysis that realized in students’ recount texts. In collecting the data, this study used documentation, listing, and identification. The data analysis was conducted through Metode Padan which applied Teknik Pilah Unsur Penentu and then was followed by Teknik Hubung Banding. The tables are used to present the percentage of each item analysis. Triangulation technique was used to get dependability of the data through peer reviews and expert judgment. The transitivity analysis showed that the students’ recount texts told about the students’ experiences in particular place and time. It can be seen from the dominant occurrence of the data analysis was material process and circumstance of location. The study found that the characterized process types and participant functions were material at 63,20% and its participants named actor, goal, and range at 53,16%, and the characterized circumstantial element is location at 84,54%. Finally, based on the research, it is expected that transitivity can develop students’ writing skill, so they can compose meaningful texts and misinterpretation in interpreting the meaning can be avoided.
