Abstract
The objective of this study is to find out the effectiveness of Scrabble Game in improving students’ vocabulary of the eighth graders of MTs Mamba’ul Ulum Mambak Pakis Aji Jepara.
In this research, the researcher used quantitative approach in the form quasi experimental design. The populations of this research are the eighth graders of MTs Mamba’ul Ulum Mambak Pakis Aji Jepara and the sample of this research were two groups that devided into experimental and control group. The experimental group was students which were taught bu Scrabble Game while the control group was students which were not taught Scrabble Game. The total numbers of the samples were 50 students. The sample was used purposive sampling where is not randomly selected.
The data were obtained by tests which were divided into pre-test and post-test. This research consisted of four meetings with two treatments. Which is two meetings for experimental group that given the treatments and two meeting for control group.
The result of this research showed that the mean score in experimental group (pre-test was 60.64 and post-test was 74.72). Then the mean score of control group (pre-test was 58.56 and post-test was 60.96). Besides that, the count of t-test in post-test was higher than t-table (6.388 > 2.021). Therefore, based on the research findings and discussion, it could be concluded that the use of Scrabble Game was effective to improve students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade of MTs Mamba’ul Ulum Mambak Pakis Aji Jepara in the academic year of 2019/2020.
