Abstract

The objective of the research was to examine the effectiveness of Flipped Classroom method applied in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text at eleventh grade of MA Negeri 01 Bawu Jepara in the academic year of 2019/2020. The design of the research was conducted by using quantitative approach in an experimental research. This experimental research used a true experimental design of nonequivalent control group design which was carried out in two classes. There was experimental and control class. The experimental class was given treatments by using flipped classroom method, but the control class has not.
The population of the research was all of at eleventh grade of MA Negeri 01 Bawu Jepara were divided into nine classes. The total of population was 299 students. The sample of the research was XI IPS 1 as an Experimental class and XI IPS 2 as a controlled class. The total of sample of the students for experimental class was 31 students and the control class was 31 students. The data were collected through test which were delivered into the pre-test and post-test in two classes, experimental and control class. Before given pre-test and post-test to the students, the research must do trying out instruments. Trying out instruments was needed in order to know validity and reliability. Trying out instruments was given from another class in experimental and control class.
The result of the score of experimental class was 33,9355, while the score of controlled class was 13,0968. This, it was found that the flipped classroom was effective or not used t-test calculation. From the result of t-test calculation, it was obtained that the value of t-observe was 5,772 and the degree of freedom (df) was 60. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of freedom was 2.00. Clearly it can be seen that the value of t-observe was greater than the value of t-table or 5,772 > 2. In other word, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, using of flipped classroom method in teaching reading comprehensive of narrative text at eleventh grade of MA Negeri 01 Bawu Jepara in the academic year of 2019/2020 was proven effective.
