Abstract

This research was about the effectiveness of scrabble and anagram game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Bulungan Pakis Aji Jepara in The Academic Year of 2020/2021. The aim of this research was to examine the effectiveness of scrabble and anagram game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Bulungan Pakis Aji Jepara. A quasi-experimental study was used in this research. The population of this research were the tenth grade students of MA Miftahul Huda Bulungan Pakis Aji Jepara which consisted of 59 students. The sample of the research was X IPS 1 as experimental group with 30 students and X IPS 2 as control group with 29 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. There were two variables in this research, they were scrabble and anagram game as the independent variable and students’ vocabulary mastery as the dependent variable. The data were obtained by test which were divided into pre-test and post-test in multiple choices. The data were analized by using SPSS 24. The result of the test’s data indicated that there was a significant difference between both classes, the mean score of pre-test in experimental group was 56.93 and the mean score of pre-test in control group was 61.86. Meanwhile, the mean post-test score in experimental group was 78.13 and the mean post-test score in control group was 69.86. It meant that scrabble and anagram was successful in developing students’ vocabulary mastery. From the calculation of independent sample t-test in post-test, the result showed that the value of ttest > ttable (2.143 > 2.000). Because the value of t-test > t-table indicated that the working hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Based on the findings and the discussion of the research, the researcher got a conclusion that scrabble and anagram was effective as media to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Bulungan Pakis Aji Jepara in the academic year of 2020/2021
