Abstract
This research aimed to examining the effect of ProblemBased Learning and ProjectBased Learning in improving students’ writing skill at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara. A quasiexperimental study was used in this research. The population of this research were the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara consisted of 389 students. The sample was 72 students which were taken by using simple random sampling technique. The data was collected by giving writing test. The calculation was done by using SPSS version 25. This research had two variables, those were problembased learning and projectbased learning as the independent variable while students’ writing skill as the dependent variable. Based on the data analysis, the results show that (1) the problembased learning gave significant effect the students’ writing skill. It is based on the result by using problembased learning scores on posttest were better in which the mean is 83,8333 than their scores on pretest of 58,2778. (2) the projectbased learning gave significant effect the students’ writing skill especially recount text. Based on the result to answer the question, the students’ scores by using projectbased learning on posttest were better in which the mean= 84,2222 than their scores on pretest the mean 60,9722. (3) there is no significant difference between the students’ score taught by using problembased learning and projectbased learning. So, it could be concluded that problembased learning and projectbased learning were effective technique at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara in the academic year 2020/2021
