Abstract

The objective of the research is to examine the effect of Hot Seat Game on students’ speaking skill at the seventh grade of MTs Islamiyah Blingoh. The researcher used quasi experimental design of nonequivalent control group design which carried out two classes, experimental class and control class. The population of this reseach was the seventh grade students of VIIA and VIIB which consists of 25 students in each class. The instrument used in this research was pre-test and post test. The technique of analysis of data used is quantitative with t-test. The result of the research showed that the use of hot seat game could improve students’ speaking skill. The mean score of experimental group was 47.00 and the mean score of control group was 46.20. While the mean score of experimental group was 69.80 and the mean score of control group was 63.60. It proved that by using hot seat game for the experimental class, students’ skill at speaking could significantly get better. The value of t0 was 2.039 with the degree of freedom 66 in the level of significance (ɑ) was 0,05 and the t-table was 2,000. It meant that t0 was considered higher than t-table in the experimental and control class. It could be concluded that H0 (the null hypothesis) was rejected and H1 (the alternative hypothesis) was accepted. It meant that Hot seat game could improve student’s speaking skill in the seventh grade of MTs Islamiyah Blingoh in academic year of 2022/2023. Therefore this game can be an alternative strategy to improve student’s speaking ability since the activity in the game could engage students’ motivation to practice speaking.
