This research deals with the types of code mixing and code switching used by Nessie Judge’s utterances, in line with that this research also analyze the reason of using code mixing and code switching based on the utterances.
The data of this research was using two selected videos on Netflix Indonesia’s YouTube channel: Penjelasan Kenapa Simon Leviev Viral Belakangan Ini #NerrorNetflix uploaded on March 11th 2022 and Robert Hendy-Freegard, Agen Intelijen Palsu Yang Jago Ngendaliin Korbannya | #NERRORNETFLIX uploaded on February 25th 2022. The objectives of this research were to find out the types of code mixing and code switching that appear in Nessie Judge’s utterances on Netflix Indonesia’s YouTube channel. The researcher also analyzed the reason why Nessie Judge used code mixing and code switching in her utterances. This research was descriptive qualitative method and human research as the main instrument. In collecting the data, the researcher utilized document and note taking method. This research employed content analysis which focused on analyzing the types of code mixing purposed by Muysken and code switching defined by Jendra. The researcher also analyzed the reasons why Nessie Judge used code mixing and code switching in her utterances using Hoffman’s theory.
Then the result after analyzing two selected videos, the researcher found that there were 253 data both code mixing and code switching. In the types of code mixing, there are 95 data of insertion, 62 data of alternation, and 55 data of congruent lexicalization. While, in the types of code switching, there are 28 data of intra-sentential, 25 data of inter-sentential, and only got 3 data of tag-switching. The mostly types of code mixing and code switching that used by Nessie Judge in her utterances was insertion of code mixing that got 95 /253 data and the lowest types that she used was tag-switching 3/253 data. From the utterances by Nessie Judge that have been analyzed, the researcher found that Nessie Judge used 6 out of 7 reason in her utterances. It can conclude that she did code mixing and code switching to give clear explanation about synopsis of the film.
