Abstract

This thesis is entitled The Effectiveness of Think Pair Share Technique in Teaching Reading Recount Text (A Quasi Experiment Study at Tenth Grade Students of MA Negeri 1 Jepara in Academic Year of 2017/2018) . This study was a quasi-experimental research aimed at finding out how effective of think pair share technique in teaching reading recount text. The samples of this study from class X IB as the experimental class and the control class are X MIA 2 consisting of 30 students for each class as the samples.
In obtaining the data, the researcher conducted five steps of experiment. It is a pre-test, the treatment, post-test, questionnaires, and interview. Based on the result of the analysis, it is shown about the students progress in reading. The experimental class is good after they were given the treatment using think pair share technique. It is shown from the different means result in the experimental class, that is from 52.3 in the pre-test to 72.3 in the post-test. In the control class the mean is 52 in the pre-test and 62 in the post-test. This data of scores means, that the experimental class was more better than control class.
Based on the result of the questionnaires it was found that there were item A wits 21.02%,item B wits 69.15%, item C wits 9.83%, and item D wits 0%. This interviewer also gets the result if most of the students like to study english using think pair share technique rather than conventional method. There was a significant difference in reading recount text between students of experimental class and control class after getting the treatment. Based on the results, it can be concluded that think pair share technique was more effective to improve students reading rather than conventional method.
