Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara and to identify the problems faced by the English teacher in the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. In this research, the researcher found out the research data based on the real activity which happened in the classroom and delivered it qualitatively. This research was carried out at SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara at the first semester of 2017/2018, from October to December 2017. The subject of this research was the English teacher at the fourth grade of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara. Meanwhile, the object of this research was focused on the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara and the identification of the problems faced by the English teacher in its process. The data of this research was obtained through the activity of observations, interview and documentations. In this research, the researcher checked the data validity by using triangulation technique. Then, the researcher analyzed the data by using inductive analysis methods. Based on the research findings, the result showed that the materials used by the English teacher in the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara was based on the topic in the handbooks entitled FITUR. The materials used by the English teacher were the vocabulary about things around us, human body and family. The media used by the English teacher in the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game were LCD Projector, pictures, cards, and real things. There were three main steps in process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara. The first step was pre-teaching activity or opsening. The second step was main-teaching activity which consisted of exploration session (explanation), elaboration session (implementing guessing game) and confirmation session (confirmation and evaluation). The last step was post-teaching activity or closing. The problems faced by the English teacher in the process of teaching vocabulary by using guessing game at the fourth grade students of SDN 01 Mantingan Jepara were about the big member of students in the classroom which consist of 40 students that made the English teacher could not control all of the students’ attentions toward the materials explanations, then the different learning characteristic of students, as well as the limited materials and facilities.
