Abstract
The purpose of this research was what to find out the difficulties of students in speaking, the implemetation of Three-Step Interview in teaching speaking and students’ response toward the implementation of Three-Step Interview teachnique. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this study was 30 students of eighth C grade students of MTs Zumrotul Wildan Jepara. The data in this research was collected through questionnaire, observation and interview. Researcher used pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire, classroom observation conducted three times and the last was interview. The reearch findings showed that there were some aspects that became students’ difficulties. There were less vocabulary and grammar mastery, students were not confident in speaking and worried if they were laughed by their friends when they made a mistakes. The implementation of Three-Step Interview in speaking made students could expressed their idea and increased students’ bravery in doing communication with English. students’ response toward the use of Three-Step Interview could give positive effect for the students in speaking. Some of students’ difficulties in speaking could assist such as students’ bravery in proposing their argument and students’ confidence in speaking. Moreover, through Three-Step Interview technique, the students were motivated to be active in the classroom activities. They were actively involved in the process of teaching and learning. This condition stimulated students to make a good communication and they could get more experiences from their partner’s interviewing result.
