Abstract
This thesis is entitled Speech Acts Analysis of Barack Obama's Speech at Gates Foundation called Goalkeepers that was aimed at "accelerating world progress" held in New York City on 20th September 2017 with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The theme was changing the world. The research was aimed at knowing the highest frequently speech act classification used by Barack Obama in the speech. The researcher used discourse analysis as method of analyzing the data that divided into three steps are data reduction, data display and conclusion or verification and speech act classification as theory of analysis. The method of collecting data is documentation. The researcher used qualitative approach and pragmatics social approach. Based on the analysis that has been done, the researcher found five speech act classification in speech of Barack Obama at Gates Foundation. There are Declarations has 15 times (24,19%), Representatives has 19 times (30,64%), Directives has 11 times (17,74%), Expressives has 10 times (16,13%) and Commissives has 7 times (11,30%). Based on that result, it could be concluded that the highest speech act classification is Representatives. The reason for this is that Former President of America Barack Obama often states the fact of statements when he was the President. The facts are the issues that happened in America such as growing economic inequality, a changing climate, terrorism, poverty, mass migration and more.
