Abstract

The research of this thesis was conducted at SMPN 1 Jepara on the seventh grade students. The researcher would like to know the students’ improvement in learning speaking skill in teaching by using Flashcard. The research objective are: (1) to know whether the students’ achievement in learning speaking before using flashcard; (2) to know whether the students’ achievement in learning speaking after using flashcard; and (3) to know whether flashcard can improve the students’ achievement in learning speaking. There were some students’ problems that the researcher found. The problems were about students’ ability in mastering aspects of speaking and also the students’ study habits. In this research, the researcher conducted experimental research. The population of this research is students of seventh grade of SMPN 01 Jepara. The subject of the study is 7H and 7I. 7H is chosen as the controlled class and 7I as the experiment class.the result of data analysis using t-test showed, tha value of is 6,667 with degree of freedom 55 in the significance degree (α) of 50%, is 2. It means that > ( is higher than ). Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Then, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted that there is a significant difference of students achievementin speaking skill between students who are taught by using flashcard and students who are taught without using flashcard media. The mean score of students post-test in experimental class is higher than in controlled class. It means that the use of flashcard is effective in teaching speaking.
