Abstract

The thesis was entitled The Use of Note-Taking Pairs in Teaching Students’ Reading Comprehension (A Descriptive Research of the Tenth Graders of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 01 Jepara in the Academic Year of 2018/2019). The objective of this study was to find out students’ problems in reading comprehension. Moreover the researcher also wants to know how the implementations of Note-Taking Pairs in teaching reading and how was students’ response toward the implementation of Note-Taking Pairs. This study was conducted by using descriptive research. The subject of this research was X IPS 1 class which consisted of 36 students. The instruments for collecting data were qualitative. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and questionnaire. The researcher did classroom observation for three meetings. In the first meeting the researcher conducted interview and observed to English teacher. The result was students got problem that they were bored because they did not interest with the learning technique that used by the teacher so they felt sleepy. The teacher also did not stimulate the students to be more active in the class and teacher’s effort had not optimal yet to control the students. Second, students’ motivation to translate and read English text was low because their vocabulary was very limited. The next problem, students confused to understand the meaning of text related to the context. While the second meeting the researcher observed students activities during learning process. The last in third meeting the resercher observed the students again and give them questionnaire. Based on the implementation of Note-Taking Pairs, this technique gave positive response that made students enjoy in teaching learning process and also increased students’ interest in read English text more.
