Abstract

This thesis discussed the Effectiveness of Using Picture Series to Teach Narrative Text Writing in the Tenth Grade of MA Darul Hikmah Menganti Jepara in the Academic Year of 2017/2018. The objectives of this research were: 1) To find out student’s achievement in writing narrative text after being taught by using picture series. 2) To find out student’s achievement in writing narrative text after being taught without using picture series. 3) To find out the significant differences between students’s achievement in writing narrative text taught using Picture Series and those who were taught without using picture series. The method of this study was quantitative method in quasi – experimental research with pre-test post-test nonequivalent-group design. It was conducted into two classes; the experimental class (X.IPS.1) and control class (X.IPS 2). The experimental class was taught by using picture series, while the control class was taught without using picture series. The writer gave pre-test to both of classes to know the basic students’ ability. Meanwhile, post-test was used to know the students’ writing ability after giving treatment (taught using Picture Series media). After collecting the result of pre-test and post-test, it was found that the mean score of pre-test for experimental class was 65.51, and the control class was 66.76. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test for experimental class was 75.42 and the control class was 72.69. It was obtained that t-test was 6. 651 and the t-table was 1.671 for alpha (a) 5%. The t-test was higher than t-table (6. 651 > 1.671). It meant Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted that there was a significance difference in teaching writing “narrative text” achievement score between pre-test and post-test of experimental class which was taught by using picture series. Based on the result, the writer concluded that picture series was an effective media in teaching writing “Narrative Text” at MA Darul Hikmah Menganti Jepara in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.
