Abstract

Many students feel writing is difficult skill because they could not start their words well on their writing. They find difficulties in finding their ideas and arrange good sentences as well, so the researcher conducted a research which focused on writing achievement. This research aimed to examine the use of chain story technique in improving students’ achievement in writing narrative text at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Donorojo in the academic year of 2019/2020. This research focused on the improving students’ achievement in writing narrative text through chain story with the research subject of 62 students. The researcher used quasi experimental research. There are two classes in this research which is divided into two groups, those are experimental group and control group. Experimental group is a group which given the treatment through chain story technique while the control group is a group which given without chain story technique. In collecting the data, the researcher uses pretest, treatment, and at last is post test in each groups. Based on the data analysis the result of this research showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is proven by the research result in experimental class the highest posttest score is 98 while the lowest posttest score is 76. Beside, in the control class the highest score is 92 while the lowest posttest score is 75. In addition in the experimental class the everage score is 87,77 on the other hand in the control class is 84,09. From the result of the tα is 2,144. The df is 60, in the t-table is 2,000. So, from this calculation showed that tα ˃ t-table (2.144 ˃ 2,000) it means that the result has significant difference of the technique of learning process on students’ writng achievement between experimental and control class in the posttest score.
