Abstract

This final project was a study to examine the improvement of students’speaking skill by using wayang golek as the media in teaching javanese folktale. The objective of this study was to find whether there was better improvement in learning speaking skill between the students who were taught by using wayang golek and those who did not teach by using wayang golek. The population of the study was eleventh graders of MA Mathalibul Huda Mlonggo Jepara in the academic year of 2018/2019. The number of the population was 210 students. The researcher used purposive sample method in choosing the sample. The sample was XI-IPA 2 which consist of 34 students. Then, this class was divided into three groups, each group consist of 11 students. The research design which the researcher used was an experimental study with One Group Pre-test Post-test Design. The research instruments used pre-test, post-test and observation journal to gain the data. This research procedure consist of pre-test (observation), treatment and post-test (observation). Pre-test was conducted at first meeting. Then, treatment was applied for three times. At last, the researcher did post-test to get the result of students’ speaking improvement. The result of the test was analyzed by using SPSS 16.0. The mean of students’ score from pre-test was 55,44 and the mean of students’ score from post-test was 63,23. The result of correlation between pre-test and post-test was 0,968. meaned strong and positive relation. Both mean showed -7,79412 (negative). It described that there was improvement of pre-test and post-test score after the treatment was done. Since t value was -18.035, t table at df 33 (t value  t table), (H0) is rejected and (H1) is accepted. Based on the result, wayang golek was more effective and making better improvement in performing the javanese folktale for the eleventh graders of MA Mathalibul Huda Mlonggo Jepara students. Therefore, the researcher suggests the teacher to use wayang golek as the media in teaching speaking and to improve students‘ motivation to speak English.
