Abstract
This thesis was entitled “STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE USE OF ROLE PLAY TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT MTSN 1 JEPARA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020”. The objectives of this study were to know the implementation of Role Play in teaching English at MTsN 1 Jepara. The result was the implementations of Role Play technique was in accordance with the features of a good role play and tips to succeed with Role Play which stated that role play should be based on a familiar situation, allows the students to perform naturally, and develops the students’ creativity. There were advantages and disadvantages of this Role Play implementation. For the advantages, students felt happy and interested in practicing Role Play performances in the class. Then for the disadvantages, it was not only taking and wasting time, but also it made students were crowded during learning process. Not only that, but also the objectives of this study was, to find out students’ perceptions after being taught by using Role Play in teaching English. The result is the students’ perceptions on the use of Role Play technique in teaching English were good or positive. It means that Most of students 70% until 80% chose agree and very agree for 36 students and of the students had positive perceptions on each category of the statements in the questionnaire. The students also enjoyed having role play as the technique.
