Abstract

Students usually are bored in learning vocabulary because they have not changed their learning habits. Talking stick is one of method that can make students think that learning vocabulary is fun. The objective of this research is to find out the significance difference between students’ vocabulary mastery taught with and without talking stick. The method of this study was quantitative method in quasi-experimental research with pre-test and post-test. It was conducted into two, classes the experimental class and control class. The experimental class (X Mipa) and control class (X Ips). The experimental class that taught by using Talking stick method, while the control class that taught without Talking stick method. The writer gave pre-test and post-test to both of classes. Pre-test was give to know the vocabulary students’. Meanwhile, post-test was used to know the vocabulary students’ after giving treatment with Talking stick method. After collecting the result of pre-test and post-test, it was found the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 74,16 and the control class was 53,05. Based on the result, the mean score of post-test in experimental class is 91,11 and the control class was 57,22. It was obtained that t-test was 5,976 and t-table 4,860. The t-test was higher than t-table (5,976 > 4,860). It can be concluded that Talking stick is effective method to teach vocabulary at SMA Islam Jepara. The researcher recommends that Talking stick method can improve vocabulary mastery for tenth grade students of SMA Islam Jepara.
