Abstract

This thesis is entitled a Content Analysis of English Textbook “When English Rings a Bell” for Eighth Grade of junior High School. This study is to describe the suitabiity of English textbook to the 2013 curriculum. The researcher used descriptive qualitative content analysis. The data were collected from the English Textbook “When English Rings a Bell” for eighth grade of junior high school written by Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. The materials in the textbook are classified based on the competency, learning process and learning model. The data are taken from the data source and entered to the checklist table to know the suitability of the materials on the English textbook to the 2013 Curriculum in terms of competency, learning model and learning process. The researcher classified and described the suitability of the materials on the English textbook to the 2013 curriculum and made a conclusion of the result. The English textbook consists of thirteen chapters and every chapter has each material. The result of this study showed that the suitability of English textbook materials to the competency were competence three and competence four. The suitability of competence three of cognitive domain was 73,33%. The suitability of competence four of psychomotor domain was 56,67%. The suitability of the English textbook materials to the learning process in the 2013 curriculum were for observing got percentage 100%, for asking question got percentage 100%, for exploring got percentage 100%, for associating got percentage 100%, for communicating got percentage 85%. The suitability of the English textbook materials to the learning model in the 2013 Curriculum, 5 chapters were suitable with discovery learning. Those were chapter VII, VIII, IX, X, XI and got percentage 39% for discovery learning. For problem based learning there was no chapter that was suitable to the problem based learning. For project based learning, one chapter was suitable to the project based learning. It was chapter V and got percentage 8%. Finally, the researcher concluded that a lot of the materials in every chapter in the English textbook were suitable to the 2013 Curriculum. The suitability of the English textbook was good for use but it needs another sources to support the materials in the teaching learning process.
