Abstract
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the group investigation technique to enhance the students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri in the academic year of 2018/2019. This type of the research was true experimental design with pretest posttest control design that involving two groups of classes. One group treated as the experimental class and other group treated as the control class. In the experimental class, the writer applied Group Investigation Technique and in controlled class, the writer applied the certain model. The population of this research was all students at tenth grade of MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri in the academic year of 2018/2019 of 297. The sample of the research consisted of 80 students with Random Sampling technique, namely class X IS 1 consisted of 39 students into the experimental group and 41 students of X IS 2 as a control group. There were two variables in this research: Group Investigation Technique to teaching reading comprehension as the independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as the dependent variable. The research instrument in the form of test, it was to measure the ability of students’ critical thinking. The data was analyzed by using SPSS statistical. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ post-test in both experimental and controlled class. In experimental class, the total mean score of the post-test was 77.47,it was greater than the total mean score in controlled class was 60.34. From the t-test, the writer found that the value the t-test in the post test was greater than the t-table (14,000> 2.000). Based on the findings and the discussion of the research, the writer drew a conclusion that the Group of Investigation Technique was effective to enhance the students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade of MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri in the academic year of 2018/2019.
