Abstract

The objective of the research is to examine the effect of using round table technique on students’ writing skill in descriptive text at eighth grade students of MTs. Masalikil Huda Tahunan. The researcher used of quasi experimental design of nonequivalent control group design which carried out two classes, one for experimental class and the other for control class. The population of this research was the eighth grade students, there were VIII.A consists of 34 students for experimental class and VIII.B consists of 34 students for control class. The instrument used in this research was pre-test and post-test. The technique used in analysis the data collecting was quantitative data with t-test. The result of the research showed that the use of round table technique in teaching writing of descriptive text had good effect. It could be seen from the result of calculating that the students’ gained score in experimental class was higher than the students’ gained score in control class. The mean pre-test score of experimental class was 58,0294, and the mean pre-test score of control class was 60,1765. While the mean post-test score of experimental class was 70,4118 and the mean post-test score of control class was 62,3824. It could be seen that mean post-test score of the experimental class was higher than the post-test score of control class. It can prove that by using round table technique for experimental class can improve students writing descriptive text. On the other hand, in control class there is no significant improvement in teaching descriptive text. The data analysis for the post-test in experimental and control class, the value t0 was 5,297 with the degree of freedom (df) was 66 in the level significance (α) was 0,05 and t-table was 2,000. It can be concluded that t0 was higher than t-table in the post-test of experimental and control class. It meant that the Null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based of the explanation above, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference of the result of teaching writing descriptive text between the experimental and control class. It meant that by using round table technique can improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text for the eighth grade students of MTs. Masalikil Huda Tahunan.
