Abstract

This research describes the errors made by ninth grade students of MTs Sultan Hadlirin Mantingan. It is a case study involving 27 students in the girl class who took the oral test, documentation functioned as the data collection. The writer used descriptive method. The purpose of this case is to find out some problems. There were the kinds of error to the students’ speaking skill in recount text are made by ninth grade students at MTs Sultan Hadlirin Mantingan and what is dominant error to the students’ speaking skill in recount text are made by the ninth grade students of MTs Sultan Hadlirin Mantingan. Based on the findings, the writer gets the result of the research. There are 5 aspects of speaking that be the kinds of error. There are grammar, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation. Five of them were done by the students at different levels. Every student did the error in the different part of speaking based on their recount text story. Based on their oral test, the total of errors from all of aspect in speaking is about 395 errors. the writer gets the highest score in the pronunciation aspect. It was 230 errors is about 58% from other speaking aspects. It was seen that students of ninth grade at Sultan Hadlirin Mantingan did not know well about pronunciation. The second aspect of speaking is grammar. For grammar aspect, students got 74 errors is about 19%. For the third aspect is fluency. For fluency aspect, students got 63 errors is about 16 %. The other aspect of speaking skill is vocabulary. For vocabulary aspect, student got 26 errors is about 6,75 %. Fluency is about 16%. And the lowest error is in comprehension aspect. For comprehension aspect, only 1 student did the error. It is about 0,25%. It indicated that the students’ speaking in recount text had good cohesion and coherence.
