Abstract

This thesis is entitled The Effect of Podcast Through Spotify Application on Students’ Listening Skill (A True Experimental Research on The Eleventh Grade Students of SMK N 3 Jepara). There are some students who can not learn listening skill because they are not practicing their listening skill regularly, they do not have a flexible media to learn, and do not familiar with the vocabulary. In fact, listening skill has a huge impact when students who are not a native speaker learning English Language. The aims of this study are to find out the students’ condition before and after the implementation of podcast through spotify application and to know the effectiveness of podcast through spotify application on students’ listening skill. The researcher used true experimental research with pretest and posttest control group design. The researcher used technique random sampling and involved two clasess which is experimental class consist of 21 students from XI MM 1 and control class that consists of 21 students from XI MM 2. There is significant difference at students’ score from pretest to posttest. The mean score in experimental class for pretest is 80,86 and the posttest is 87,62. For the control class, the mean score for pretest is 74,95 and the posttest is 81,52. The result of t-test in this study is for t-observe 5,823>t-table 2,018 with the degree of freedom (df) 40 in significant value 0,05. The conclusion of the study based on the research and the data analysis that have been done, the researcher found that the students have significant difference between the pretest score and posttest score (before and after apply the treatment) and the implementation of podcast through spotify application is effective to improve students’ listening skill.
