Abstract

This study is about the correlation of students’ learning style toward their English achievement at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Sultan Agung 03 Kalinyamatan. The aim of this study is to find out what type of learning style that used by the eighth grade and whether there is a correlation of between students’ learning style toward their English achievement at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Sultan Agung 03 Kalinyamatan. The population of this study are the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Sultan Agung 03 Kalinyamatan which consists of 136 students. The sample of the study is VIIIA which consists of 27 students. The sample is purposive technique sample. There are two variables in this study, they are learning style as the independent variable and students’ English achievement as the dependent variable. The instrument of this study is questionnaire and documentation. In questionnaire, the result of the data indicates that their learning style is dominated by auditory with percentage 56% of 15 students. 33% (9 students) from the population were visual learners and the kinethetic with only 11% (3 students). Meanwhile, the result of the English achievement of daily score show that most students were in Very Good (Grade A) catergory. From the correlation between two variable through correlational product moment, the result shows that the Sig (2-tailed) is greater than the p (0,784 > 0,05). Based on the findings and the discussion of the study, the writer gets a conclusion that there is no correlation between students’ learning style toward their English Achievement at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Sultan Agung 03 Kalinyamatan.
