Abstract

Writing has become an important thing nowadays. Writing is part of language learning. Some teachers tried to stimulate students to write, especially in English. In writing narrative text, the students sometimes have some difficulties to write because of some factors such as the idea of students’ still poor and the limitation of time also influence the students to write. There are some techniques in teaching writing; one of the techniques is Round Table. Round table technique is one of the cooperative learning techniques that can be used for increasing students’ writing skill. Roundtable is a technique that can be used for brainstorming. In roundtable, the student is designed to generate a large number of ideas about a topic in a group with the other students. The objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness of round table technique to improve students’ writing skill of the eleventh grade students of MA Walisongo Pecangaan in academic years 2019/2020. This study was quasi experimental research with non equivalent control group design. The population was eleventh grade students of MA Walisongo Pecangaan. The sample of the study was 15 students of XI MIA 1 who were chosen as Experimental Class and 22 students X MIA 2 who were chosen as Control Class. The finding of this research that is Round Table Technique has significant effect to improve students’ writing skill on narrative text. Based on research result, the mean score of experimental class is 91,07. Meanwhile the mean score of control class is 78,14. The highest score of experimental class is 97 and the highest score of control group is 90. The t-test calculation of post test showed that the score for both experimental class and control class increased. The mean score of experimental class was higher than mean score of control class 91,07>78,14. The t test result was also positive. The tvalue was higher than ttable 6,641>2,042. It meant that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So, it can be concluded that round table technique is effective to improve students writing skill on narrative text. Round Table technique also can be used by English teacher as a variety among the other technique because this technique requires students to be more active in group when they learn together.
