Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to find the students’ difficulties to learn vocabularies in SD Unggulan Terpadu Bumi Kartini Jepara; and (2) to know the implementataion of cartoon video in teaching vocabularies skill on the fifth grade of SD Unggulan Terpadu Bumi Kartini. This research was qualitative research in the form of descriptive method. The subjects of this research were the fifth grade students of SD Unggulan Terpadu Bumi Kartini Jepara in the academic year 2018/2019. The number of the subject were 26 students. The techniques of collecting the data were observation, interview, questionnaire, documentation, and field Notes. There were three observation. First observation, second observation, and third observation. The researcher used observation class as instrument to get the data answer how cartoon video was used in teaching vocabulary at fifth grade students of SD Unggulan Terpadu Bumi Kartini Jepara. The results of data analysis from questionnaire are: (1) the students’ interest in cartoon video given is high and they like it; (2) The students’ have difficulties in memorizing the word; (3) the cartoon video has some advantages, they can help the students in mastering vocabulary; and (4) the students motivation in learning English after having activity by using cartoon video is high. In line with the result of the research, it can be concluded that the reserch showed that the students’ have difficulties in memorizing the words in learning vocabulary. The implementation of cartoon video done by the English teacher in teaching vocabulary could be done well. The students motivation in learnin English increased and they expected that this kind of program would be given regularly and countinuously. The strategies in teaching vocabulary give support to the student’s vocabulary
