Abstract

This thesis is about the effectiveness of Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. It is aimed to know whether Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method is effective or not to teach vocabulary mastery. This study was quasi experimental research with non equivalent control group design. This study used quantitative data which was obtained from pre test and post test. In the pre-test, the mean score of experimental group was 58,60 and the control group was 55,80. It means that the experimental and control group had same ability in the beginning of vocabulary mastery. The experimental class was taught by using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method, meanwhile the control class was taught without using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method. In the post-test, the mean of experimental class was 82,4 while control class was 61,4. The data analysis used t-test, the value tvalue of pre-test in experimental and control group was 0,864 with degree of freedom (df) 38 in the level significance (α) of 0,05, ttable was 2,024 and the value tvalue of post-test in experimental and control group was 6,910 with degree of freedom (df) 38 in the level significance (α) of 0,05, ttable was 2,024. It showed that, only in post-test of experimental and control group tvalue was higher than ttable. It could be concluded that Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method was effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at second grade of MA Nahdlatul Ulama Batealit Jepara in the academic year of 2019/2020. So, Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) method could be recommended as the solution for the teachers to bring their students to a new concept of assisting the students to use their ability in vocabulary mastery.
