Abstract

This study investigated the impact of guessing word games and students’ learning styles on students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Islam Kedung Jepara in the academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this study was all seventh grade students of SM Islam Kedung Jepara. The researcher took class A as an experimental group and Class B as a control group. The researcher gave the questionnaire for each group to find out the kind of learning styles. Then, the experimental and control group did pre-test. The experimental group received treatment of Guessing Word Game whereas the control group was treated by Talking Stick. Then, a post-test was done for each group. The results were analyzed through MANOVA. The result shows that there is an interaction between the learning styles of students with teaching strategy using guessing word games. Students with visual got good score after teaching by using Guessing Word Games compared with students with auditory learning style. On the other hand, the students with visual learning style after being taught by using Talking Stick also got a better score than who were auditory learning style. It can be seen from F ratio > F table where 4,169 > 3,99. Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Finally, this finding of this research can be useful information or it can be used as basic information and reference for further researchers who are interested in conducting similar studies.
