Abstract

This research was about the effectiveness of think talk write strategy through picture to improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Miftahul Huda Suwawal Timur in academic year of 2020/2021. The aim of this research was to examine the effectiveness of the use think talk write strategy through picture to improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Miftahul Huda Suwawal Timur. This research was a true-experimental research exactly Pre-test and Post-test control group design that involving two groups of classes. The population of this research were the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Miftahul Huda Suwawal Timur which consisted of 82 students. The sample of the research consisted of 54 students which where taken by using simple random sampling. The sample was divided into two classes. There were experimental class and control class. Each class consist of 27 students. There were two variables in this research, they were Think Talk Write through Pictures as the independent variable and students’ writing skills as the dependent variable. The instrument of this research was writing test. The result of the test’s data indicated that there was a significant difference between both classes, the mean score of pre-test in experimental group was 71,85 and the mean score of pre-test in control group was 74,37. Meanwhile, the mean post-test score in experimental group was 78,67 and the mean post-test score in control group was 74,85. It meant that think talk write strategy through picture was successful in developing students’ writing skill. From the calculation of independent sample t-test in post-test, the result showed that the value of ttest > ttable (2,224 > 2,000). Because the value of t-test > t-table indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Based on the findings and the discussion of the research, the researcher got a conclusion that think talk write strategy through picture was effective to improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Miftahul Huda Suwawal Timur in the academic year of 2020/2021.
