Abstract

This research aimed to examining the effect of Problem-Based Learning and Project-Based Learning in improving students’ writing skill at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara. A quasi-experimental study was used in this research. The population of this research were the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara consisted of 389 students. The sample was 72 students which were taken by using simple random sampling technique. The data was collected by giving writing test. The calculation was done by using SPSS version 25. This research had two variables, those were problem-based learning and project-based learning as the independent variable while students’ writing skill as the dependent variable. Based on the data analysis, the results show that (1) the problem-based learning gave significant effect the students’ writing skill. It is based on the result by using problem-based learning scores on post-test were better in which the mean is 83,8333 than their scores on pre-test of 58,2778. (2) the project-based learning gave significant effect the students’ writing skill especially recount text. Based on the result to answer the question, the students’ scores by using project-based learning on post-test were better in which the mean= 84,2222 than their scores on pre-test the mean 60,9722. (3) there is no significant difference between the students’ score taught by using problem-based learning and project-based learning. So, it could be concluded that problem-based learning and project-based learning were effective technique at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan Jepara in the academic year 2020/2021
