Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using Word Chain through English Song to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at eleventh grade of MA Roudlotul Mubtadiin Balekambang Jepara. This research had been conducted on October until November 2020. This research used true experimental research as the research design. The population of this research were eleventh grade of MA Roudlotul Mubtadiin Blakembang Jepara which consisted of 125 students and the sample of this research was XI LK-2 as the experimental class and XI LK-3 as the control group. Each class consisted of 25 students. The sample was taken by using technique random sampling. The data were obtained by test which were divided into pre-test and post-test and the data were analyzed by using SPSS 24. The result of the data showed that the mean pre-test score of experimental class was 62,6 and Control class was 58,4. The t-test of pre-test showed that sig (2-tailed) > 0,05 ( 0,0365 > 0,05). It meant the data was not significant. The mean post-test score of experimental class was 82,2 and control class was 76,8. The t-test of post test showed that sig (2-tailed) < 0,05 ( 0,026 < 0,05). It meant there was significant between experimental class and control class. Bisedes that, the score of tobserve was 2.303 while score of ttable was 2.000. It shows that tobserve > ttable = 2.303 > 2.000 in the degree significance 5%. In other word meant, The Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on the findings and the discussion of the research, the researcher can conclude that using Word Chain through English song was effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery at eleventh grade of MA Roudlotul Mubtadiin Balekambang Jepara in academic year 2020/2021. It could be solution for the teacher in teaching vocabulary using Word Chain game through English song a the media.
