Abstract

This research was aimed at analysing on students’ narrative writing. Writing is a skill that requires the learners to learn grammar and enrich their vocabularies in conveying their message and idea of writing. Having competency in grammar and other language components can make a good students’ writing skill. However, students may produces many errors because the complexity in making English sentences. The lack of knowledge in target language rules makes the student errors in writing. The research objective was to investigate the type of error in students’ narrative writing and to find the common type of error in students’ narrative writing.
The research design was descriptive qualitative research. The source of data was taken from students’ writing of narrative text from eleven grade of immersion class in MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri. The method of collecting data for this research was the students’ narrative writing.
The result showed that the total of the error was 235 which consisted of omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The omission was 103 errors by percentage of 43,8%, addition was 36 errors by percentage of 15,3%, misformation was 52 errors by percentage of 22,1% and misordering was 44 errors by percentages of 18,8%. The dominant type of error from students’ narrative writing of this research was omission. The data could be concluded that the students omited many subject and verb inflection of past verb. This research can be evaluation for the students, so hopefully they can be aware to make good writing. Furthermore, teachers can also use this research as the material to improve and add learning methods, especially in writing and grammar subject. Another hand, the researcher also hopes that the other researchers can find other phenomenons, vcb so the related research can be developed to be rich literature.
