Abstract

This thesis is aimed to find out the effectiveness of index card match (ICM) in teaching vocabulary for tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan. This study uses true experimental research with pretest and posttest control group design. There are two classes that is chosen as sample; experimental class who receives treatment by using index card match and control class who receives treatments using conventional teaching media. The population is tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan and 70 students are chosen random by lottery as the sample. To obtain the data, this study uses tests (pretest and posttest) for both of classes. After the data is collected, the data is analyzed by using SPSS t-test formula. Based on the result of normality and homogeneity test of pretest and posttest, it shows that both classes are normally distributed and homogeneous. The normality test analyzed by Kolmogorov Smirnov and homogeneity test analyzed by Levene test. For pretest, t-count (4,530) is higher than t-table (1,997). In the posttest, t-count (7,226) is higher than t-table (1,997). It is proven that index card match is effective for teaching vocabulary mastery rather than using conventional media.
