Abstract

This research is entitled “Developing Flashcard Media to Improve the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Tenth Grade Senior High School”. This research was Research and Development (R&D). This research was conducted in MA Miftahul Ulum Pendem, Jepara. This research directed to develop the flashcard media in teaching English vocabulary for the tenth grade of a senior high school student, to find out the feasibility of developed-flashcard media in teaching English vocabulary for tenth-grade senior high school students based on the validators, and to find out the significant of developed flashcard media in teaching English vocabulary for tenth-grade senior high school students. In this research the researcher used ADDIE Model in developing the flashcard. The first procedure of ADDIE analyze the teacher’s needs, curriculum analysis, and students’ needs. The second step was design is the prototype of the researcher conducted some procedures, those arranging the design of flashcard, determining the material, and finishing the flashcard media. After designing the flashcard, the next step was development. In this step the researcher calculated the validation result and did revision of the flashcard from the validators’ data. The fourth was implementing the media. In implementing the media the researcher categorized as the class into 2 groups. Those were X Science was experimental group. That was taught by flashcard media, and X social was for the control group and it was taught without the flashcard media. And the last step of ADDIE was evaluation. In the evaluation the researcher intended to know how far the effectiveness of the flashcard in teaching learning process. In the evaluation, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the students in order to know the advisability of the flashcard. And the researcher conducted the pretest in both of the classes. The result of the questionnaire result was 86.40%. It could be categorized into very worth. And for the posttest result of experimental score, the average was 78.83 and the control group was 67.60. From the result of questionnaire and posttest score shows that the developed-flashcard media was worth and effective. So, the flashcard media is effective and can be used in teaching learning process especially in English vocabulary mastery. Therefore, based on the data above, the developed flashcard can be used to improve studentsvocabulary mastery.
