Abstract

This thesis is entitled The Effectiveness of Jigsaw Technique In Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension (An Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grade Students of MA Al Faizin Bangsri Jepara in the Academic Year of 2017-2018). The purpose of this research is to get the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of using jigsaw technique in improving students’ reading comprehension. This research was held in August 2017 at MA Al Faizin Bangsri Jepara. The method used in this research was quantitative method in the design of quasi experimental research. Two classes were taken as the subjects of this research, namely experimental group and control group, the students of XI-A class as the experimental group and XI-B as the control group. In analyzing the data, the writer used a quantitative measurement to find the result. The analysis of the data showed that there was a significant difference of the students’ achievement between experimental group and control group. The average of the students’ achievement before conducting treatnment 64.86 for experimental group and 62.9 for control group. The average of the students’ achievement after conducting treatment in experimental group was 80.18 and in control group was 71.75. Based on this finding, it is suggested that Jigsaw technique can be used by the teachers to improve students’ reading comprehension. The data got from both experimental group and control group were analyzed by using T-test formula also. The result of calculation showed that in the significance degree of 5% and 1%, the value of t-test > t-table (2.816 > 2.021 – 2.704). According to the criteria of the test, the result showed that there is a significant difference between students’ achievement in reading comprehension by using jigsaw technique and without jigsaw technique. It means that jigsaw technique is effective and applicable at the eleventh grade students of MA Al Faizin towards in improving students’ reading comprehension.
