Abstract

This thesis is entitled The Effectiveness of Clustering Technique in Teaching Writing Recount Text. (An Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade Students of MTs NU Al Mustaqim Bugel in the Academic Year of 2017/2018). This study was to find out the effectiveness of clustering technique in teaching writing recount text. The researcher used a quantitative method in true experimental research with post test only control design. The sample in this research were the eighth grade students of MTs NU Al Mustaqim Bugel. They were VIII A class as the experiment class and VIII B as the control class. For sampling technique, the researcher used purposive sampling. By using purposive sampling, the researcher got the experimental and the control classes based on the English teacher’s recommendation that both of the classes were homogenous, had same facilities, were available and willing to be studied based on the permission of MTs NU Al Mustaqim Bugel. The instrument used in this research was a written test and the analytic scoring rubric was used to score the students writing on the posttest. The result of comparison between t observe and t table found that on the degree of significance 5% (α: 0,05), to was 5, 23 while t table was 2,01 or to > t table. Based on the statistical hypothesis testing by using paired sample t-test found that lower and upper were positive, upper was higher than lower and Sig (2-tailed) ˂ α = 0,000 ˂ 0,05. Therefore, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It proved that there was a positive effect of using clustering technique in student’s writing recount text and clustering is effective for the student’s writing of recount text.
