Abstract

The aim of the research is to find out whether there is a significant correlation between students’ reading interest and reading comprehension. This research is quantitative approach. The population of this research was the students of eleventh grade of SMKN 1 Jepara, Central Java in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of this research was 25 students of XI APHP 3 class taken by simple random sampling. The research design was ex post facto design; the researcher did not give treatment, but collecting the data by seeing the correlation between cause and effect. The instruments were questionnaire and reading test. The researcher analyzed the correlation used Pearson’s Product Moment Formula to determine the correlation between reading interest (variable X) and reading comprehension (variable Y).
The result of the research shows that there is no correlation between students’ reading interest and their reading comprehension. It can be seen from the analysis by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation, the result shows that the correlation is 0,055. It is lower than r table (0,34). The significance of two variables is 0,79. It is more than 0,05 (0,79 > 0,05). It means that there is no significant correlation between students’ reading interest and reading comprehension. The result of the research also showed that the contribution of reading interest to reading comprehension is 0,3%. Therefore, the researcher concluded that there is no significant correlation between students’ reading interest and reading comprehension at eleventh grade students of SMKN 1 Jepara, Central Java in academic year 2018/2019.
