Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy to teach student’s reading comprehension achievement, especially for narrative text at the eleventh grade students’ of MA Al-Ma’arif Jepara academic year 2018/2019. The subject of this research were 46 students. Experimental research was used as a method in this research. This reseach was conducted in two group, they are the experimental class and control class. The experimental class was students which were taught by using Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy, while the control class was students which were taught without Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy. The data for both of class were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and post-test. Both of the test need to gather the data to get the final result.
The result of the research showed that Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy there were not effective to use in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text. From the result of statistic calculation, it was obtained that the value of t-observation (to) -2,120 and degree of freedom (df) is 44. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of significance is 2,015. Comparing those values, the result is -2,120 < 2,015 it means t-observation (to) score is lowest than t-table (tt) score. In other words, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha)is rejected and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. Therefore, teaching reading comprehension of narrative text by using Listen Read Discuss (LRD) strategy there were not effective to be used.
