Abstract

The objective of this research is to find the effectiveness of using Circle the Sage Strategy to teach grammar in simple present achievement, at the twelfth grade students of SMK Roudlotul Mubtadiin Balekambang in the academic year of 2018/2019. The subjects of this research were 73 students. True Experimental research was used as a method in this research. The research was conducted in two group, they are the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group was students which were taught by Circle the Sage Strategy, while the control group was students which were taught without Circle the Sage strategy. The data were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the research showed that Circle the Sage Strategy is effective to use in teaching grammar especially in simple present tense. mean pre-test score of the experimental group was 59,23 and the control group was 42,06. After analyzed the result of pre-test score by using SPSS, the result showed that the significant of t-test was 6.821 if this is compared with t-table on df 50 in significance 5% the value of degree was 2,01. So that, it was significant because tobserve > ttable (6.821 < 2.01). This is inversely to the post-test score. Then the result of SPSS from the post-test score showed that the score of tobserve was 16,997 by using degree of freedom 5%, the value of 50 (the degree of significance) as stated in the t-table was 2.01. It means that from the post-test score there is a significant high score than pre-test score, because tobserve>ttable (16,997> 2.01). Clearly it can be seen that the t-test of post –test was higher than the t-test of pre-test and both of them had a same significant score but the t-test of post-test was increased than t-test of pre-test because it has been given twice treatments that used Circle the Sage Strategy for learning simple present tense in experimental group. It is also supported by the average between both of the group that the result showed that the post-test scores were better than the pre-test scores. In other words, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, teaching grammar in simple present tense by using Circle the Sage Strategy is effective.
