Abstract

The objective of this research were the first one is to find out students achievement in writing descriptive text after being taught by using project-based learning method. Second, to find out students achievement in writing descriptive text after being taught without using project-based learning method. And the last, to find out the significant differences between students achievement in writing descriptive text taught using project-based learning method and those who were taught without project-based learning method. The method of this study was quantitative method in quasi-experimental research with pre-test and post-test. It was conducted into two classes the experimental class and control class. The experimental class (VIII B) and control class (VIII C). The experimental class that taught by using project-based learning method, while the control class that taught without project-based learning method. The writer gave pre-test and post-test to both of classes. Pre-test gave to know the basic of students writing ability. Meanwhile, post-test was used to know the students writing ability after giving treatment taught project-based learning method. After collecting the result of pre-test and post-test, it was found the mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 42,58 and the control class was 36,70. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test in experimental class is 89,83 and the control class was 53,43. It was obtained that t-test was 32816 and t-table 2040. The t-test was higher than t-table (32816>2040). It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Based on the result, the writer conclude that project based learning method was an effective method to teach writing descriptive text at MTsN 1 Jepara.
