Abstract

The thesis is entitled “The Effectiveness of Number Heads Together Technique to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text” (A Quasi Experimental Study at the Eighth Grades Students of MTs. Darul Ulum Islamic Junior High School Purwogondo in the Academic Year of 2019/2020). This study directed to examine the effectiveness of number heads together technique in improving reading comprehension of narrative text for the eighth grades students of Islamic Junior High School Darul Ulum Purwogondo in the academic year 2019/2020. The researcher used quasi-experimental design that used the non-equivalent control group design. Two classes were taken as the subjects of this study namely experimental and control class. The data of experimental and controlled class were analysed by using SPSS20. The result of calculation showed that in the significance degree of 0.05, the value of t-test (t0) > t-table (tt) (4.570 > 2.074). According to the criteria of the test, the result showed that there was a significance difference between students’ achievement in reading comprehension of narrative text by using number heads together technique and without number heads together technique. It meant that number heads together technique was effective and applicable at the eighth grade students of MTs. Darul Ulum Purwogondo towards students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. Number Heads Together Technique could be recommended as the solution for the teachers to bring their students to a new concept of assisting the students to use their ability in reading skill of narrative text.
